Many people are afflicted with bruxism which is the term for grinding your teeth either at night or even during the day. Grinding your teeth can damage enamel, wear down teeth, cause fractures in your teeth leading to expensive dental work, lead to TMJ ( jaw pain) and irritate your gums.

If you grind your teeth at night you should consider a night guard. Several options are available over the counter in the store and will work but a custom made night guard from the dentist is the best choice since it is made for your teeth and then adjusted. Some insurance companies cover night guards and others do not….please ask us to call or pre-authorize a night guard with your insurance carrier.

The procedure is easy only needing impressions of your teeth and a bite registration. The night guard is made and then fitted at the next appointment where it is adjusted to be comfortable to wear. They can last many years, but some people will need them replace more often if they are heavy grinders.
