Bridges
Bridges are a great way to replace missing teeth when there are solid teeth surrounding the missing ones. Bridges look like natural teeth and are very durable. Replacing teeth with a bridge is often preferred over an implant since it usually costs less money and can be completed in about 2 weeks versus several months. Replacing missing teeth restores biting/chewing functions, improves speech and prevents other teeth from shifting and super-erupting. Since teeth are connected together with a bridge, flossing underneath a bridge will be required daily with a floss threader. Dental x-rays and examination are required first to evaluate the surrounding teeth and esthetics. Often bleaching is suggested prior to placement of a bridge so the end result is a bright white smile.
The process of a bridge is much like a crown….it is two crowns that have the missing teeth attached between them hence the term bridge.
See the crown section on this site for the procedure aspects.
